In this article, you will learn the explanation of Surah Al-Inshiqaq (Splitting Open) as well as its benefits.
Surah Al-Inshiqaq
In Surah Al-Inshiqaq, there is an explanation of what will happen on the Day of Resurrection in terms of changes in the conditions of heaven and earth. The verses also show that God Almighty will hold every person accountable for their deeds in this world. And the believers who do righteous deeds will receive a great reward in the hereafter.

Tafsir (Explanation)
“In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.
{1} When the sky has split (open).
As Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran:
And the heaven will be rent asunder, for that Day it will be frail.
Al-Haqqah (The Reality) 69:16
{2} The sky heard the command of its Lord and obeyed Him by splitting.
{3} And when the earth has been stretched forth,
Meaning: God Almighty expanded the earth until it became very wide and removed its mountains and others on that Great Day (the Day of Resurrection).
{4} And has ejected out all that was in it and became empty,
Meaning: By an order from Allah Almighty, the earth has thrown the dead, treasures, and other things within it on its back, so nothing remains in it.
{5} The earth has listened and obeyed its Lord.
{6} O mankind! Indeed, you are laboring towards your Lord with ‘great’ exertion and will ‘eventually’ meet the consequences.
Meaning: O mankind, you are doing good or evil so that you will meet your deeds on the Day of Resurrection, and God Almighty will hold you accountable for them.
{7} Whoever is given his Book of Deed with his right hand,
{8} He will be judged with an easy reckoning,
Meaning: His sins are known and then forgiven.
Aisha, the wife of the Prophet Muhammad, narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
None will be called to account on the Day of Judgment, but will be punished.” I said, “O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)! Didn’t Allah say, “Then as for him who will be given his Book of Deeds in his right hand, he surely will receive an easy reckoning?” (84:7-8), the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah upon him) replied: “That (Verse) means only the presentation of the accounts, but anybody whose record is questioned on the Day of Resurrection will surely be punished.
Al-Bukhari (6536) and Muslim (2876)
{9} And will return to his people joyfully.
Meaning: He will return to his family in Paradise in happiness because he survived the agony.
{10} And as for he who is given his record from behind his back,
Meaning: The unbeliever, who denied the Books of God, has his right hand tied to his neck and his left hand behind his back, so he takes his Book of Deeds with it.
{11} He will cry out for destruction.
{12} He will enter a Blaze to burn.
{13} Verily, he had been among his people in joy,
Meaning that in this world, he was happy, arrogant, and did not believe in the resurrection.
{14} Thinking he would never return ‘to Allah’.
Meaning: He thought that he would not return to God to be held accountable.
{15} But yes! Indeed, his Lord has been ever, of him, All-Seeing.
Meaning: The matter is not as he had thought, but he will return to God to hold him accountable. His Lord was ever of him, seeing and knowing his condition from the day He created him until He resurrected him.
{16} So I swear by the twilight glow!
God Almighty has sworn by the twilight glow.
{17} And ‘by’ the night and what it envelops!
God Almighty has sworn by the night and what it envelops. Because when the night comes, everything goes to its abode.
{18} And ‘by’ the moon when it becomes full!
Allah Almighty has sworn by the moon when it becomes full.
{19} You will surely pass from one state to state.
That is, you will undergo changing phases: from the sperm to the clot, the embryo, the breathing of the soul, then will be a newborn and a child, then will be an adult, will die, then will be resurrected.
{20} So what is the matter with them that they don’t believe,
Meaning: So what prevents them from believing in God, His Messengers, and the Last Day,
{21} If the Qur’an is recited to them, they do not prostrate to Allah? Prostration here means submission. Submission is from the heart. If the heart is submissive, the whole body will prostrate to Allah Almighty out of love, fear, and dread.
{22} But the disbelievers deny,
That is, the unbelievers oppose the truth after it becomes clear. Denial is their true nature.
{23} And Allah knows best whatever they hide.
Meaning: Allah Almighty is the most known of what they keep within themselves. God knows best their secrets and their openness.
{24} So give them tidings of a painful torment. Meaning: Tell them that God has prepared a painful punishment for them.
{25} Except for those who believe and do good deeds, they will have a never-ending reward.
Meaning: Except those who believe in God Almighty and His messengers and obey God and do righteous deeds, for they will have an unlimited reward in the Hereafter.
